County Land Use Plan: Ron Walker, Mark Stoops

Play

Local landowners and business leaders held a town forum this week to voice concerns over the county’s proposed comprehensive land use plan. Some argued that the public hasn’t been given enough time to review the proposal. Monroe County Commissioner Mark Stoops says those claims are unfounded, pointing out that copies of the 115-page plan have been available since September. The Monroe County Comprehensive Plan is a blueprint for future zoning ordinances that will influence future legislation and land use ordinances that affect local land owners. Its guiding principle is to keep the current rural land rural and the already designated urban land urban, by containing residential sprawl and industrial development. Today we hear from the director of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation Ron Walker, who says the new land use plan is anti-business, and a rebuttal from county commissioner Mark Stoops, but first we hear from the president of the property management company CFC Jim Murphy as we take you on-location to Wednesday night’s forum at Bloomington High School North.
