City Council to Hear $10 Mil Parks Projects Proposal

Play

The Bloomington Board of Park Commissioners yesterday authorized borrowing $10 million for proposed parks projects. The projects will be paid for by three separate bonds that collectively are known as the 2018 Parks Bicentennial Bond.

Parks Operations Director Dave Williams said many of the proposed projects connect trails within the city. Once such project would follow Duke Energy power lines west from the Switchyard Park.

Two more projects would create a three-mile hiking loop around Griffy Lake, and complete the Lower Cascades Trail.

Adam Wason proposed improvements to three downtown alleys near the courthouse square. Improvements include road resurfacing, better lighting, and art installations.

Underwood anticipates the city’s debt service payments will be between seven-hundred thousand and eight- hundred thousand dollars per year.

The Bloomington City Council still has to give its approval on the bonds. The City Council meets tonight.
