City Council Considers Scooter Regulations Tonight

Play

The Bloomington Common Council will meet at city hall tonight, to discuss additional regulations on scooter use.

Tonight’s meeting comes after the publication of survey findings from area residents. Three different surveys on electric scooter use in the city garnered thousands of responses, most of them negative. According to the report, the majority of respondents – around 75 percent – had never ridden the scooters before. A majority reported they believe the electric scooters, like those operated by Bird and Lime in Bloomington, need additional regulations and increased enforcement for operating guidelines.

City of Bloomington Communications Director Mary Catherine Carmichael said the findings of the scooter survey will help inform city initiatives on scooter safety going forward.

The Bloomington City Council meeting takes place tonight, at 6:30 p.m., at the Showers Building.
