Formal grievances filed by inmates in the Monroe County Jail have been published. Decarcerate Monroe County, an inmate advocacy coalition, has authored a pamphlet titled “Break The Silence”. The publication is a compilation of formal grievances filed by inmates at the Monroe County Correctional Center in downtown Bloomington. The pamphlet includes 25 verbatim complaints filed by inmates from 2009 to 2012. Formal grievances made by incarcerates by law require administrative response and are public record. WFHB News Correspondent Nash Hott spoke with Ross Eiler, an advocate for DMC who helped author the pamphlet. Eiler described the pamphlet and the obstacles it took to publish it for today’s news feature.
