Bloomington Revising it’s Scooter Agreement

Play

The City of Bloomington is revising its application agreement with scooter operators. Bloomington Public Works Director Adam Wason described some key provisions of the new application for the Board of Public Works on September 17th.

Scooter companies Bird and Lime have been operating in Bloomington under interim operating agreements since November of 2018.

The operating application approved by the Board this week requires scooter companies to describe their safety inspection programs, and provide a 24-hour customer service number. Wason said, currently, there is no cap on the number of scooters companies can deploy, but the City retains the right to institute a cap under certain conditions.

The Board of Public Works will review and approve each company’s application. Once approved, scooter companies will pay an annual licensing fee of ten thousand dollars, plus a monthly fee calculated based on the number of rides per month. Board Vice President Beth Hollingsworth said she was happy with the new application process, though it will likely continue to evolve.
