Bloomington Board Considering Storm Water Rate Increase

Play

The Bloomington Utilities Service Board is considering raising the city’s storm water rates. In last night’s board meeting, board member Jim Sherman said storm water rates have remained flat for over 20 years. He said the city needs the increase to pay for overdue infrastructure projects.

The Board is also considering gradually phasing in storm water increases, which could add almost three dollars to a monthly utility bill. Utilities Director Vic Kelson said the proposed increase put Bloomington residents in a similar billing amount with storm water rates charged elsewhere in the state.

The board will take up the rate increase in its December 10 meeting. The Bloomington City Council would have to approve the increase before it can take effect.
