On this episode we got to chat with Jeanne Smith, president of the Steering committee of the Stonewall Democrats of South Central Indiana. Last night, the Stonewall Democrats published their endorsements for the upcoming primary elections. Here’s the statement, taken from their facebook group (which you should join for more information, or visit their website at www.sdofsci.com):
Stonewall Democrats of South-Central Indiana (SD-SCI) have announced endorsements of candidates running in Indiana’s primary election, currently scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
SD-SCI works to increase LGBTQ+ representation in local and state offices and advocates for legal protections of LGBTQ+ hoosiers at the local and state level.
SD-SCI membership includes LGBTQ+ hoosiers and allies from Monroe, Brown, Owen, Greene, Morgan, Lawrence, and Bartholomew counties. Democratic candidates in both contested and uncontested primary races were invited to apply for endorsement.
The endorsed candidates are:
Cinde Wirth, IN State House District 59
Alyssa Bailey, IN State House District 62
Paula Staley, IN State House District 65
Cheryl Munson, Monroe County Council At Large
Trent Deckard, Monroe County Council At Large
Geoff McKim, Monroe County Council At Large
Alphonso (Al) Manns, Judge of the Circuit Monroe County Circuit Court, Division 1, Seat 9
Kara Krothe, Judge of the Monroe County Circuit Court, Division 8, Seat 5
Jessica MCClellan, Monroe County Treasurer
In the Indiana State Senate District 40 race, SD-SCI chose to endorse both Shelli Yoder and John Zody. Both are strong allies for the LGBTQ+ community and presented equally strong applications for endorsement.
