Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill denied sexual assault allegations against a Democratic lawmaker and three staffers at a legislative party in March, this morning.
The allegations were made public by The Indianapolis Star last week, which published a memorandum from an Indianapolis law firm detailing the allegations against the first-term Attorney General. During this morning’s press conference, Hill resisted a bipartisan call for his resignation, calling the accusations that he twice groped (D-Munster) Mara Candelaria Reardon “materially inaccurate.”
“I stand before you, a condemned man,” Hill told reporters. “Condemned without trial, condemned without notice, condemned without the benefit without any basic rights that ensure fairness. These past several days have seen my name and reputation dragged through the gutter in ways I would’ve never imagined.”
Hill called the allegations that he groped Reardon twice, gave a prolonged and unwanted back-rub to a staffer, and told women at the party to ‘show some skin’ in order to get better service from AJ’s Bar and Grill staff, “false.” He also took the opportunity to condemn the media for sensationalizing the allegations against him, and refused to answer questions.
