City Officials Reconsidering Repairing Parking Garages

Play

The Bloomington Common Council is expected to take up the bond funding measures for two downtown parking garages in its meeting, tomorrow night.

City of Bloomington administrators seem set on replacing the downtown Fourth Street parking garage, but some city council members are revisiting the idea of repairing the garage.

Members of the city council have been working with city administrators on specific sustainability features in a new Fourth Street garage. Council member Steve Volan raised the idea of repairing the aging parking garage versus rebuilding it, in the Bloomington Redevelopment Commission’s meeting, last night. City Council member Isabel Piedmont-Smith also said she is coming around to the idea of temporarily repairing the garage, rather than replacing it.

Deputy Mayor Mick Renneissen said the city had considered the option to repair the Fourth Street Garage, but said the timing of repairing the garage could complicate matters.
