Dungeons and Dragons. It’s just a game, right? For members of IU’s D&D club, it’s much more: a social outlet, a confidence builder, maybe even an effective anti-depressant. IU junior and D&D gamer Red Wagoner says they have worked through personal issues through their gaming characters. Fellow gamer Rozanne Lorenzana uses their gaming sessions to combat the self-isolation that comes with clinical depression. Experts on the psychological effects of collaborative gaming agree; IU Media Psychology Professor John Velez says these games positively impact mental health.

Today’s feature story on IU’s Dungeons & Dragons club was produced by Liam Greene in partnership with The Media School at Indiana University. Theme music by Rocavaco.
