WFHB’s Music Director Abby Noroozi recently had the pleasure of sitting down via Zoom with Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy—the long-running project of songwriter Will Oldham—for a thoughtful conversation about the new album We Are Together Again.
Recorded ahead of the album’s release, the interview explores the spirit of the record, which finds Oldham returning with a deeply reflective and comforting set of songs that feel especially resonant in the present moment. The conversation also reveals a couple of surprising regional ties. Oldham spent time as a kid at Camp Palowopec in Brown County, where early musical discoveries helped shape their creative life and love of music. They also shared that their very first recorded album—released under the name Prince Brothers—included songs recorded at the studio on Indiana University’s campus during the summer of 1992.
It’s a warm and wide-ranging conversation about songwriting, place, and the enduring power of music. Enjoy!
