The Indiana Recovery Alliance’s efforts seem to be paying off. Ahead of the 4th Annual Overdose Remembrance and Candlelight Vigil, the IRA has seen decreases in the number of overdoses deaths in Monroe County.
Elsewhere in the state, overdose deaths continue to rise.
IRA Founder and Director Chris Abert sees a causation in the correlation – Monroe County and Clark County, where overdose deaths have fallen or stalled respectively, are two areas where the IRA operates needle exchanges and distributes the opioid overdose reversal drug, Naloxone.
Abert spoke with WFHB News Director Wes Martin about what’s changed in the last four years, since he helped found the overdose vigil, and the state of the opioid crisis across Indiana.
