Arbor Day Tree Giveaway (Please read the message)

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of National Arbor Day, Sycamore Land Trust’s annual “Arbor Day Tree Giveaway” has expanded to distribute more than 800 native tree seedlings in southern Indiana.
We are giving away twelve native tree species from Vallonia Tree Seedling Nursery’s Wildlife Packets, as well as redbud and pin oak. Indiana Department of Natural Resources considers these species especially important to local wildlife for the food and shelter they provide.
Available species (while supplies last) include eastern redbud, American plum, black cherry, blackgum, common chokecherry, chinkapin oak, elderberry, hazelnut, gray dogwood, pawpaw, persimmon, red oak, shagbark hickory, Washington hawthorn, and pin oak. One tree seedling per person. For event details, visit sycamorelandtrust.org/free-trees.

Exhibit: We Answer the Call: Our Neighbors’ Stories from the COVID-19 Community Oral History Project

In the midst of a global pandemic, many Monroe County residents did what they could to help their family, friends, and neighbors stay healthy. The exhibit, We Answer the Call: Our Neighbors’ Stories from the COVID-19 Community Oral History Project, features quotes from members of our community who have helped or been helped by our neighbors and participated in the History Center’s COVID-19 Community Oral History Project. Located in the Deckard Education Room and free to the public, We Answer the Call shines the light on our local helpers who answered our call for help during the pandemic.

Support for We Answer the Call is provided by IU Health Bloomington, Indiana Humanities, and members of the Monroe County History Center.

3AM. Recent Iron and Mixed media Sculpture by Bert Gilbert Opening Reception

For Gilbert, the past several years have brought intimate life-altering events even beyond the pandemic — deaths in the family and retirement from his construction and design business among them. Absorbed by reflection, the artist states about his show 3AM

It’s those things you think about in the middle of the night that get scraped out of the back corners of your brain. Those things with the touch of truth and a big dash of the fantastical. The worries, the dreams, the expectations, and exasperations that flitter across the back side of our eyelids and dance a manic cotillion through our restless mind.

The exhibit is free and open to the public.
