John Brown’s Body is a vibrant tapestry of America’s diversity and its unity. A stirring theatre piece presented in stories and song, it puts a human face on the war that split the nation.
Powerfully evocative and engaging, Stephen Vincent Benét’s lyrical work is a series of vignettes featuring ordinary and extraordinary characters grappling with life during the Civil War.
Adult and teen audiences will find it entertaining, powerful, and socially and historically relevant. Audiences will have a chance to discuss this piece with “Talk Backs” after the performances.
Presented with support from the Monroe County History Center, the Monroe County Civil War Roundtable, and IU Theatre and Dance.
