A Death Cafe is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda, ideology, objectives, or themes. It is a discussion group rather than grief support or counseling session. Death Cafes have spread quickly around the world. Over 16,500 Death Cafes are held in 85 countries. It is all volunteer-run.
The monthly Death Cafe at Morgenstern Books is run by co-hosts Rick Clayton and Casey Stover. Rick Clayton is a hospice chaplain, end-of life doula, and musician who enjoys playing harp, cello, and guitar for his clients. Casey Stover is a Certified Family Life Educator whose professional work often exists adjacent to death and grief, shaping her belief in the importance of accessible spaces to normalize honest conversation and community care.
You can find our Death Cafe at the back corner of the bookstore, near the restrooms, on the last Tuesday of every month at 7 pm.
