Fifty-seven years ago, Elliott conducted her now-legendary Blue-Eyed/Brown-Eyed Exercise that exposed children to the harsh realities of discrimination based solely on eye color—a condition over which they had no control. A Contrast in Color is a powerful exploration of race, identity, and the human condition. A reception and talkback will follow each performance. There will be a Special Talkback on Friday, October 3rd, featuring Jane and Sarah Elliott.

The Redbud Community Play Reading Series is a free monthly reading series in which community members and theatre professionals share in the joy of reading plays aloud together. On Thursday, October 9, from 7:00-8:00 pm, as we settle into the fall season, Beacon will join in a national movement to protest the tragedy of homelessness and memorialize people who have experienced homelessness and passed away in the last year.
First started over twenty years ago in Bloomington, we continue this tradition with guest speakers and a candle-lighting ceremony to honor those we’ve lost.

One of the most powerful crime dramas of all time, Heat is more incendiary than ever. Al Pacino and Robert De Niro dually power the momentum and enormous scale of this groundbreaking crime epic. While we do not care about foul language in your set, we do not allow racist, homophobic, transphobic or rape/female bashing jokes. Southern Culture On The Skids has been consistently recording and touring around the world since 1983. The band (Rick Miller – guitar and vocals, Mary Huff – bass and vocals, Dave Hartman – drums) has been playing together for over 30 years. Their musical journey has taken them from all-night North Carolina house parties to late night TV talk shows (Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show), from performing at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to rockin’ out for the inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They’ve shared a stage with many musical luminaries including Link Wray, Loretta Lynn, Hasil Adkins and Patti Smith. Their music has been featured in movies and TV, parodied by Weird Al, and used to sell everything from diamonds to pork sausage. In 2014 the band was honored by the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with an exhibition featuring their music and cultural contributions. Their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock and roll and what Rolling Stone dubbed “a hell raising rock and roll party.”

This informal social event brings the VITAL community together for light snacks and conversation.
