7:00 – Rikki Jean
7:30 – Darlin’ Brando
8:30 – West Fork Revival
Darlin’ Brando—the pseudonym of singer, songwriter and drummer, Brandon Goldstein— melds the twang and two-step beats of honky tonk, the wry humor and storytelling of folksy troubadours like Kristofferson, Prine and Miller, and the melodic hooks and surprise twists and turns of golden-era rock ‘n roll to create an exciting and unpredictable brand of country music.
Though raised in Virginia, his music is a product of decades spent moving from city to city, coast to coast. From Los Angeles to Brooklyn to Bloomington, IN to Nashville Tennessee. And then back to LA. All while living and learning the kinds of hard lessons country songs are made of: heartbreak, divorce, substance abuse, the list goes on.
West Fork Revival is a musical collective that blends alternative country, folk, rock, and indie genres. The band was formed in 2024 and is known for its storytelling, melodic craftsmanship, and a sound inspired by artists like Son Volt and The Jayhawks.
Rikki Jean learned the harsh realities of life at a young age, losing her father at age five. Growing up in Southern Mississippi, life was tough for her, two sisters, and widowed mother . Every step of the way seemed to get harder as she cascaded through life. Growing confidence with every failure, Rikki managed to put a band together and has now recorded three albums.
An exploration of every facet of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with his parody songs to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.
Daniel Radcliffe is “Weird Al” Yankovic in the unexaggerated true story about the greatest musician and sex symbol of our time. The screening will be preceded by a recording from the man, the myth, the legend himself—Weird Al—and there will be a post-screening Q&A with producer Mike Farah. [120 min; comedy; English]

When the tape accidentally gets mixed up with another incriminating recording, the young mail carrier becomes a prime target, being chased across Paris–most famously on moped–by drug dealers, ruthless music pirates, and a slew of cops.

Three time BMA nominee’s The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band are “the greatest front-porch blues band in the world”. They are led by Reverend Peyton, who most consider to be the premier finger picker playing today. He has earned a reputation as both a singularly compelling performer and a persuasive evangelist for the rootsy, country blues styles that captured his imagination early in life and inspired him and his band to make pilgrimages to Clarksdale, Mississippi to study under such blues masters as T-Model Ford, Robert Belfour and David “Honeyboy” Edwards.
Sarah Jacobson was admired in the independent film scene of the 1990s for her adamantly self-starting approach: with the help of her mother, she financed, distributed, and marketed her films completely outside of the film industry’s corporate structure. These films tackle the coming-of-age genre with a radical politics and a raw DIY approach. [125 min; comedy, drama; English]
I Was a Teenage Serial Killer (1993): Mary has killed 19 men, one for every year she’s been alive, and she shows little interest in stopping. This explosive send-up of the coming-of-age story is delightfully raucous and fueled by a cathartic release of pent-up anger.
Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore (1996): Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore is punk rock’s response to the Hollywood teen romance. Shot on Super-8 and made for just $12,000, Sarah Jacobson’s only feature film fully embraces her lo-fi, no budget aesthetic.
Presented in partnership with the Media School.

Georgia O’Keeffe is widely revered as the “Mother of American Modernism” and the greatest woman artist of the 20th century. In the 1920s, O’Keeffe became famous for her paintings of flowers, bones, and the beauty of nature. She posed nude for shocking photographs by her lover, Alfred Stieglitz, but denied that her paintings depicted sexual imagery. In the 1970s, living in her beloved New Mexico, she emerged as an iconic role model for American women. This feature documentary film stars Claire Danes as the voice of Georgia O’Keeffe with narration by Hugh Dancy. [118 min; documentary; English]

Creamy, smooth, with a consistent mouth-feel and a balanced earthiness of vegetables and fat. We’ll tackle this soup from scratch, working our way from raw veggies to the final steaming product, garnished with massive broiled, cheesy croutons. Or, as the pros call them, crostinis. This soup is indulgent without feeling heavy. Perfect for meal-prep.

Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton took the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton—inspired by the book Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow—and created a revolutionary moment in theatre with a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. Filmed at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in June of 2016, the film transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way. In this two-part series, Tim Londergan and Steve Vigdor, Professors Emeritus of Physics, will present the basic science behind global warming and climate change . The presentation will emphasize empirical data rather than complex climate models. They will discuss short-term impacts of climate change that are already being felt, and long-term concerns about potential irreversible changes to Earth systems. They will then outline steps that could be taken to mitigate the most severe impacts of climate change, if the civic will to do so can be mustered. Questions and comments from the audience are welcome!
The first lecture will focus on the following questions:
A. How do we know that global climate change is real, and that humans are responsible for global warming?
B. What are the short-term impacts of climate change?
Synopsis: Deadpan, small-time Kosher Nostra member and ex-con Harry Plotnick (Martin Priest) is just released from prison and trying to regain his lost turf in a neighborhood turned topsy-turvy. After a chance reunion with his ex-wife and grown children, Harry is suddenly immersed in middle-class normality and goes meshugga when he gets into the catering biz with his ex-brother-in-law (Ben Lang). What follows is a world of call girls, bar mitzvahs, lingerie fashion shows, Cuban-Chinese mobsters, subway parties, Mafia barbecues, dog training classes, Congressional hearings, and hotel pajama parties. Shelved by writer/director Roemer in 1969 following a laugh-less preview, THE PLOT AGAINST HARRY emerged two decades later when he overheard a technician performing a video transfer of the film laughing hysterically. On a whim, Roemer made two 35mm prints and sent them to the New York and Toronto Film Festivals (it was a hit with audiences), before releasing theatrically to great acclaim in early 1990 as a bona fide comedy classic.

Joshua Redman acknowledges that the title of his new Blue Note album, Words Fall Short, could be viewed ironically. His previous and widely acclaimed Where Are We was his first to pair a vocalist with one of his many monumental Quartets; yet Words Fall Short is anything but a comment on the saxophonist’s last triumph. More accurately, his latest offering is an organic next step, a collection of previously unheard originals brought to life by inspiring new collaborators. “It’s impossible for me to will a project into being,” he says of the wide-ranging adventures he has embarked upon in what is now his fourth decade as a recording artist. “This album came out of a working environment that inspired me to dig into compositions that hadn’t found a home yet.”
The process began as the first leg of Redman’s Where Are We Tour concluded and pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Joe Sanders, and drummer Brian Blade each left to honor other commitments.
In building a new rhythm section, Redman found himself drawn to younger players he had recently encountered. Bassist Philip Norris and drummer Nazir Ebo came aboard first, and Redman quickly knew he had made the right moves. “Not since Christian McBride can I recall experiencing an acoustic jazz bassist who seemingly has it all together at such a young age,” he says of Norris, “and Nazir has groove in spades, a groove that is super-flexible, in the flow of the moment and with an innate sense of architecture that always serves the song.” By summer of 2023, pianist Paul Cornish had completed the quartet’s transformation. “Paul is the perfect balance of empath and contrarian, challenging everyone to break away from the established patterns, while still always making the music feel good and natural in the moment.”
As the new quartet performed steadily over the next several months, Redman felt a vibe developing, one brought to fruition by a stack of music the saxcaphonist created during the pandemic.
This live storytelling event features a series of true stories about the experiences of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. From choosing to pursue your dreams in a new country, to fleeing violence in a home you never thought you’d leave, the stories in this production showcase the diverse experiences of Bloomington’s immigrant community. Join us for this celebration of tenacity, resilience, and joy.
