Doors at 6:30pmThe IU Arts and Humanities Council in partnership with the IU Writers’ Conference is excited to host Lynda Barry as the 2025 Granfalloon Festival keynote speaker. Her keynote will include a talk, Q&A, and book signing.
Lynda Barry has worked as a painter, cartoonist, writer, illustrator, playwright, editor, commentator and teacher and found they are very much alike. The New York Times has described Barry as “among this country’s greatest conjoiners of words and images, known for plumbing all kinds of touchy subjects in cartoons, comic strips and novels, both graphic and illustrated.”
Barry has received numerous awards and honors for her work, among them two William Eisner awards, the American Library Association’s Alex Award, the Wisconsin Library Association’s RR Donnelly Award, the Washington State Governor’s Award, the Holtz Center for Science & Technology Outreach Fellowship, The Museum of Wisconsin Arts Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2017 Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Cartoonists Society. She also received an Honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Philadelphia University of Art in 2015, and was inducted into the Cartoonist’s Hall of Fame in 2016. In 2019 Lynda Barry was honored as a MacArthur Fellow (also known as the Genius Grant). The MacArthur Foundation website says: “Exuberant and generous as a teacher, Barry is removing the barriers that usually prevent people from writing and drawing and enabling artists and non-artists alike to take creative risks.” In 2020 she received the 2019 NCS Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year , and in 2021 Oregon State University presented her with the Stone Award for Literary Achievement.

The King’s Wife imagines a secret history of Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn (the first wives of Henry VIII) and the untold story of their friendship and struggle for power in a male dominated era. A revolutionary pop musical by two-time Grammy-nominated songwriter, Jamie Floyd, and award-winning playwright, Mêlisa Annis, this bold reimagining of history explores the enduring legacy of extraordinary women.
Davey Osborne is an average 11-year-old boy with an overactive imagination. He spends his days playing video games and pretending to be a spy with his imaginary father-figure, Jack Flack – a substitute for his real father, who is struggling with the recent death of Davey’s mother. However, fantasy becomes reality for Davey after he witnesses the murder of an FBI agent, who in his dying breath, gives Davey a mysterious video game cartridge called Cloak & Dagger, which in actuality contains top-secret government information. With the help of his younger friend Kim, the tech savvy Morris, and even a little help from his fictional secret agent mentor, Davey must stay one step ahead of pursuers as he tries to survive a real-life game of espionage in the streets of San Antonio, Texas.
Grounded in a bond as fierce as their sound, Gully Boys’ electrifying live performances have earned them spots on SXSW stages, Audiotree sessions, and tours alongside Nova Twins, Motion City Soundtrack, Destroy Boys, Bad Bad Hats, and more. From the iconic stage at Minneapolis’ First Avenue to national gigs that defy expectations, Gully Boys capture an ethos of equal parts anger and tenderness—fueling a journey that feels like it’s just getting started.
The power and innovation of female guitarists take center stage in the electrifying new exhibition, “She Shreds: From Sister Rosetta to St. Vincent,” opening on June 6th from 4–6 PM. This groundbreaking showcase traces the legacy of women in rock music, from the pioneering riffs of Sister Rosetta Tharpe to the genre-bending artistry of St. Vincent.
Featuring archival materials, instruments, and oral histories, “She Shreds” highlights the profound influence of female guitarists and sheds light on their often-overlooked contributions. The exhibit pays homage to legendary artists and bands such as Sleater-Kinney, Hole, and Fanny while also celebrating local musicians and grassroots movements, including Girls Rock Bloomington, which has empowered young female artists in the community. Contemporary artists such as Phoebe Bridgers and Japanese Breakfast from local record label Secretly Group will also be showcased.
Through a curated collection of artifacts and narratives, “She Shreds” offers a powerful counter-narrative, confronting the erasure of female guitarists in mainstream music culture. Past and present will be highlighted through custom listening stations where visitors will get to experience curated playlists, and vinyl tunes from artists featured in the exhibit. At 5pm enjoy a special gallery talk from local artists and an electric guitar demo.

The Brown County Playhouse proudly presents Doublewide, Texas — a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy about a quirky group of trailer park neighbors doing everything they can to save their way of life… even if it means seceding from the state!
Show Dates: June 6, 7, 8, 13 & 14
In one of the smallest—and wackiest—trailer parks in the Lone Star State, the citizens of Doublewide are facing their biggest challenge yet: annexation by the town of Tugaloo. With a stubborn brother in a beauty pageant, a diner owner with too many stray animals, a feisty bar-loving mama, and a retirement village worker whose husband loves his recliner more than her, things are bound to get interesting.
Packed with outrageous characters, side-splitting twists, and plenty of Texas-sized heart, Doublewide, Texas is the feel-good comedy you won’t want to miss.

Doors at 7pm I’m With Her has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting Conscious Alliance’s mission to end hunger nationwide and feed families in need. www.plus1.org
With the 2014 formation of I’m With Her, singer/songwriters Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, and Sara Watkins introduced an essential new force into the world of folk music: a close-knit alliance of highly esteemed musicians, each graced with a deep understanding of folk tradition and unbridled passion for expanding its possibilities.
Since delivering their critically lauded debut See You Around and standalone singles like “Call My Name” (winner of the 2020 Grammy for Best American Roots Song), the trio have routinely taken time out from their individual careers to dream up songs together—eventually arriving at a new album exploring themes of ancestry, lineage, and the collective human experience. On their long-awaited sophomore LP Wild and Clear and Blue, I’m With Her now bring their luminous harmonies to a soul-searching body of work about reaching into the past, navigating a chaotic present, and bravely moving forward into the unknown.
