Join us for a heartwarming and delicious celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day at our Community Pancake Breakfast! This event is more than just a meal. It’s an opportunity to come together as a community, reflect on Dr. King’s legacy and share a morning of unity and joy. This breakfast is open to all!
Attendees will enjoy breakfast and fellowship with IU and community colleagues and friends before beginning a day of service. The program includes music, a presentation of IU’s Building Bridges Awards and more.
Host: Refugee Support Network
All local immigrant assistance groups including Exodus, El Centro, Refugee Support Network, and congregational and community groups will gather proactively to share strategies and build solidarity for anticipating changes to immigration policy. Bloomington Mayor Kerry Thomson will speak at the beginning, and after group introductions attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the groups in small break-out sessions.
Create a square for our community quilt using paper. We’ll then join them together in a display to honor the rich history of Quilting Bees, Freedom Quilts, and Martin Luther King Jr.

The City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission is excited to commemorate this year’s event with the theme “A Necessary Renaissance in Social Justice: Telling the Stories to Ignite Change.”
We are thrilled to announce that Keith A. Beauchamp, an acclaimed investigative journalist, documentarian, activist, and filmmaker, will be our keynote speaker for this significant occasion. Beauchamp’s groundbreaking investigative reporting and his 2005 documentary were instrumental in prompting the State of Mississippi to reopen the murder case of Emmett Till. His long-term collaboration with Emmett’s mother culminated in the powerful feature film, TILL, which has received numerous nominations from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and Critics’ Choice Awards and is currently streaming on major platforms.
The Birthday Celebration will also feature inspirational messages from local government and community leaders, musical performances, the Legacy Award presentation, and more.

Every Monday includes fun skating, cardio challenges, dance moves, skills lessons, a good stretch, and support from veteran roller derby skaters.
Activities are focused on advanced beginner to skilled skaters.

This hands-on program introduces the basics of ham radio operation, showcasing its use as a hobby and a valuable skill in various professions. Meet a club member, explore how to get involved, and discover the practical and technical side of this fascinating activity.
A fun night of casual board games and conversation. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet other LPIN members in the area. The games are provided. If you have a game you’d like to play with everyone, bring it along. Outside food and drink is permitted. Snacks can be purchased at The Game Preserve, or in nearby food court also. In recognition of Holocaust Remembrance Day, join us for a presentation by the Candles Holocaust Museum. They will share the story of Eva Mozes Kor, the museum’s founder, and reflect on the history and impact of the Holocaust. We encourage ages 9 and up to attend and invite parents or guardians to join their children for this important program.

Morgenstern Books is excited to host acclaimed artist, Julie Heffernan for an event to celebrate her new book, Babe in the Woods! Join us for an evening sure to be full of interesting conversation and perspective.
Join La Casa and the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center for a screening of Gumbo Coalition, a documentary that follows two visionary Civil Rights leaders, Marc Morial and Janet Murguía, as they work to empower African American and Latino American communities through three turbulent years in America. Directed by two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple, the film takes us on an intimate — and sometimes humorous — journey into their lives, homes and the family histories that motivate their mission to achieve a more just and equitable country. At a dramatic crossroads in American history these leaders face some of their biggest challenges: the global pandemic, the murder of George Floyd and the 2020 presidential election and its aftermath. The film is co-produced by Ray Nowosielski, a Bloomington resident and NAACP Image Award nominee. Q&A with Ray and other guests will follow.

Artist-flmmaker Georden West’s debut feature is an expressionist and very queer bricolage, focusing on an atemporal night in the renowned Playland Café. Following its employees and others who have haunted the space, weaving together a tapestry of personal and community anecdotes across the bar’s existence.

Local artist, Zoe Dean, provides watercolor painting instruction every Friday excepting the first Friday of the month. All supplies are provided. All skill levels are welcome—including beginners! Requires a minimum of 3 registrants or class will be canceled.
“Self Portrait” Linda Meyer-Wright
Linda was an original BWS Signature Member and a popular teacher who influenced a long list of student artists. She was extremely creative and prolific in many mediums, but this exhibit features primarily watercolors! Her art is reflective of her humor and wit and her very vivid imagination, making it a fun and happy show.
Hosted by her sister Joanie Meyer, it will feature 32 large, professionally framed works of art. These paintings have not been recently displayed, prior to this exhibit. You will also have the opportunity to purchase smaller, unframed paintings from her studio. All artwork is offered at very reasonable prices.

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for this Bluegrass and Old Time Jamming Workshop taught by Allie Jean Burbrink that will help you improve your skills at playing with other musicians! All bluegrass instruments are welcome and no jamming experience is necessary! Participants should be able to tune their instrument (electronic tuning devices are welcome) and change smoothly between G, C, D, and A. (Fiddles and Basses should know which notes work with which chords). Workshop cost is $25 and participants should bring their own bluegrass/old time instrument to play!
The 11th Annual Cutters Casino Night is a fun-filled night for adults to socialize, eat, drink, and play games to win prizes. The Casino games include blackjack, craps, and other fun games. PROCEEDS: Proceeds of this event will help fund Cutters Financial Aid and Cutters Outreach Programs.
