Landlocked is hosting Afro-Sonic Experiments and Feminist Aesthetics: an artist talk and album signing with Berlin-based Peruvian artists Alejandra Cardenas (aka Ale Hop) and Laura Robles. Their debut collaborative album ‘Agua Dulce’ radically deconstructs Afro-Peruvian music and dance traditions, paying close attention to its colonial history. The duo focus on the cajon, a Peruvian box drum that enslaved peoples made from fruit boxes when Spanish colonizers banned the drum in the 19th Century. Robles uses a home-made electric cajon to beat out rhythms from dances, while Cardenas fractures the sounds with abstract electronics, splintering the tracks into noisy facets. Larissa Lai presents opening remarks for the inaugural Bloomington Book Fest as part of the Culture Nights: Planetary Futures lecture series.

Proceeds from October’s show will be donated to Camp S.O.U.L., a local summer camp program at IU’s African American Arts Institute, whose mission and purpose is to create a unique musical environment centered in African American traditions by promoting unity, professionalism, discipline, self-respect, cultural awareness, and academic excellence that allows every student the opportunity to form a plan of action that will make their dreams and goals a reality.

Something strange starts to happen when a gerontologist researching sleep and aging gets entangled with a sensual vampire couple who hunt in the New York Club scene. After an incident with her lab primates expressing vampirish behavior, Dr. Sarah Roberts (Sarandon) meets a man named John (Bowie) who’s having difficulty dealing with the false promise of his lover (Deneuve). STEM Saturday is a weekly program that gets visitors to engage in STEM. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Saturdays are designed to provide engaging hands-on STEM activities aimed at inspiring interest in STEM subjects and to make learning both hands-on and fun. STEM Saturday is meant for ages 5 and up. Each week the Education Team and volunteers develop different hands-on activities meant for the entire family. STEM Saturday is designed for ages 5-17, but we encourage adults and children to work together so that they can learn together! The program curriculum is carefully crafted to align with early childhood development principles while instilling key concepts of environmental science. Tailored for children aged 3 to 6, this program ignites curiosity, fosters a love for nature, and cultivates a sense of responsibility towards the environment.

There are two sides to every story, and when the Big Bad Wolf takes the stand in Piggsylvania’s Trial of the Century, he finally gets his say. But whether he’ll get a fair trial in a corrupt piggy court is anyone’s guess. Will the pigs’ splashy show make a puppet out of justice, or is the wolf’s song and dance about a sneeze gone wrong all razzle-dazzle? Enter the jury box and help decide the fate of Big ‘n’ Bad in this musical adaptation of the hit children’s book. Fun for all ages!

Who will be crowned Bloomington’s Trivia Champion? Teams compete over five Trivia nights for championship bragging rights!
The winning team from each night will automatically qualify for the Championship Tournament on Dec. 6. Cumulative point leaders also have a chance to qualify. At the end of the series, the top teams will compete to be Bloomington’s Trivia Champions!
Prizes are awarded each night to the top three teams. Register a team of six or fewer by the registration deadline. Registration is $30 per team per night.

The Downtown Library and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard will also have free seeds available. Any seeds left over from the Swap will be donated to the participating seed libraries so that they’re still available for the community.
When donating seeds, please make sure your seeds are not from invasive plants and note the following:
- The type and variety of seed
- The year the seeds are from
- Whether the seeds are store-bought or self-saved
We ask that you please package your seeds accordingly; we will have tools and supplies on-hand.

Join the Bloomington Chamber Singers in the first concert of their 54th season, as Guest Conductor Carolann Buff leads the choir in a program of iconic works by English composers from the Renaissance and the Twentieth Century. Experience one of Benjamin Britten’s most popular works, Rejoice in the Lamb (1943) on fragments of a late 18th-century poem written from an insane asylum; William Byrd’s sublime Mass for Four Voices (1592-3), composed for clandestine Catholic celebrations in recusant households, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ colorful Five English Folk Songs (1913), which sends you on your way with a rousing Wassail song! The concert will be presented both live and livestreamed.
