The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot—ROZZUM unit 7134, “Roz” for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling. The Wild Robot stars Academy Award® winner Lupita Nyong’o (Us, The Black Panther franchise) as robot Roz; Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian) as fox Fink; Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek, Best in Show) as opossum Pinktail; Oscar® nominee Bill Nighy (Living, Love Actually) as goose Longneck; Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Rocketman) as gosling Brightbill and Oscar® nominee Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All at Once, this summer’s The Fall Guy) as Vontra, a robot that will intersect with Roz’s life on the island. The film also features the voice talents of Emmy winning pop-culture icon Mark Hamill (Star Wars franchise, The Boy and the Heron), Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows, The SpongeBob Movie franchise) and Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible films, Pulp Fiction). A powerful story about the discovery of self, a thrilling examination of the bridge between technology and nature and a moving exploration of what it means to be alive and connected to all living things, The Wild Robot is written and directed by three-time Oscar® nominee Chris Sanders—the writer-director of DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, and Disney’s Lilo & Stitch—and is produced by Jeff Hermann (DreamWorks Animation’s The Boss Baby 2: Family Business; co-producer, Kung Fu Panda franchise).

Don’t miss a special solo set from Hiss Golden Messenger, performing the 2010 record “Bad Debt” in its entirety, along with other favorites. Coming to Buskirk Chumley Theater on October 9th. Tickets on sale now.
In 2010, M.C. Taylor—leader, songwriter and singer of Hiss GoldenMessenger—sat down at his kitchen table and started writing and recording the songs that would eventually become his beloved album Bad Debt. At the time, the songwriter was living in a drafty cedar cabin in the woods outside of Pittsboro, North Carolina with his wife and three-month old son Elijah, having recently moved across the country from California. Taylor was, for all intents and purposes, out of the music game.

PRESENTED BY Cicada Cinema & The Buskirk-Chumley Theater
Spooky pre-show fun: 6:30pm
Synopsis: Popcorn (1991) follows a group of college students holding a film festival in an old theater (similar to the 102 year-old Buskirk-Chumley!?!).
Among the movies being shown during the festival is Possessed, an experimental film made by the deranged filmmaker Lanyard Gates, who killed many people from the audience during its initial showing. And now – a master of disguise is killing again!
John Cusack is Rob Gordon, the owner of a semi-failing record store located on one of the back streets of Chicago. He sells music the old-fashioned way—on vinyl—with his two wacky clerks, the hysterically funny rock snob Barry (Jack Black in a star turn) and the more quietly opinionated underachiever Dick (Todd Louiso). But Rob’s business isn’t the only thing in his life that’s floundering when his longtime girlfriend Laura walks out on him, forcing him to examine his past failed attempts at romance the only way he knows how. [113 min; romance, comedy; English]
