Join author Mark Littman, Ph.D. to learn about solar eclipses and the science behind them. Discover the mythology and folklore behind eclipses, as well as the best way to safely view the phenomenon. Copies of his most recent book, Totality: The Great North American Eclipse of 2024, will be available for purchase at a book signing following the program.
Mark Littman received a B.S. in chemistry and literature at MIT, an M.A. in creative writing at Hollins College, and a Ph.D. in English at Northwestern University. He teaches science writing at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. His books about solar eclipses, giant meteor storms, Halley’s Comet, and the discovery of the outer planets have won four national awards. Before joining the staff of the University of Tennessee in 1991, Mr. Littmann taught astronomy at Loyola College in Maryland and the University of Utah. He also directed the Hansen Planetarium in Salt Lake City from 1965 to 1983, and has the honor of having an asteroid named after him by the International Astronomical Union, 303265 Littmann.
