A Silent Disco is an event where people dance to music heard through wireless headphones. The music is transmitted directly to each person’s headphones – on three separate channels – rather than played through speakers. Those without headphones hear no music (other than people who sing along to what they are hearing). The three channels of music can be selected using a simple switch on each person’s headphones, and headphones light up blue, red or green to show visually what channel you are listening to. People can dance to the same tune as others with them, or to their own selection. If you hear a song you don’t like, or get tired of a particular style of music, just switch channels.
Proceeds will benefit Morgan County Public Library Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization that provides the incredible Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to children in Morgan County.
Playlists?
Blue – a mix of 70’s and 80’s dance hits and 80’s and 90’s alternative rock (eg Rick James, Devo, B52’s)
Red – current dance hits & 90’s and 00’s hip hop (eg Dua Lipa, Jack Harlow, Taylor Swift)
Green – classic rock and danceable country tunes (Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Kenny Chesney)

His long-term collaboration with Emmett’s mother culminated in the powerful feature film, TILL, which has received numerous nominations from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and Critics’ Choice Awards and is currently streaming on major platforms.
The Birthday Celebration will also feature inspirational messages from local government and community leaders, musical performances, the Legacy Award presentation, and more.

To combat the Kaiju monsters, massive robots called Jaegers were developed for global defense. But as the Jaegers become less able to beat back the Kaiju threat, and with humanity on the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed-up former pilot and an untested trainee—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past as our last hope.

Join La Casa and the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center for a screening of Gumbo Coalition, a documentary that follows two visionary Civil Rights leaders, Marc Morial and Janet Murguía, as they work to empower African American and Latino American communities through three turbulent years in America. Directed by two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple, the film takes us on an intimate — and sometimes humorous — journey into their lives, homes and the family histories that motivate their mission to achieve a more just and equitable country. At a dramatic crossroads in American history these leaders face some of their biggest challenges: the global pandemic, the murder of George Floyd and the 2020 presidential election and its aftermath. The film is co-produced by Ray Nowosielski, a Bloomington resident and NAACP Image Award nominee. Q&A with Ray and other guests will follow.
