The four-film Female Prisoner Scorpion cycle charts the vengeance of Nami Matsushima (Meiko Kaji, LADY SNOWBLOOD), who becomes an avatar of survival and an unlikely symbol of female resistance in a male-dominated world. Spiritually akin to MS. 45, COFFY, and THE BRIDE WORE BLACK, FEMALE PRISONER SCORPION: #701 (the first film in the cycle) introduces Nami — a gullible, unjustly imprisoned woman who must find a way to escape and exact revenge upon the man who betrayed her. Featuring stunning pop-art compositions and ultra-violent outbursts, it’s easy to see why this movie was a direct inspiration for Uma Thurman’s character of “The Bride” in Quentin Tarantino’s KILL BILL.

On the first day at his new school, Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) instantly falls for Bianca (Larisa Oleynik), the gorgeous girl of his dreams. The only problem is that Bianca is forbidden to date until her ill-tempered, completely undatable older sister Kat (Julia Stiles) goes out, too. In an attempt to solve his problem, Cameron singles out the only guy who could possibly be a match for Kat: a mysterious bad boy (Heath Ledger) with a nasty reputation of his own. This modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew was a star-making turn for Ledger, the onscreen debut for Gabrielle Union, and featured a supporting cast that included David Krumholtz, Andrew Keegan, Alison Janney, and Larry Miller. [97 min; comedy, drama, romance; English]

In this year’s annual Rosemary Miller Lecture, Duncan Campbell remembers Nancy Hiller and her deep commitment to historic preservation, the written word, fine woodworking, and personal ethics. A stalwart member of the Bloomington community, Nancy’s advocacy, good humor, and personal touch were felt by everyone she met; and her writing, furniture, and model of ethical citizenship reached well beyond Bloomington. Few have done as much for preservation, or spread its word as far, but it was her readiness to so elegantly share her life’s work and intimate self-examination in her writing that truly set her apart.

This Brazil, Indiana native is self-taught on guitar, piano, and drums influenced by the best in country, R&B, rock & roll, and blues. Expressing a raw and impulsive style of rock & roll, Henry always adds his own voice and style. His sales over the years have topped well over the million mark. This has given him the opportunity to be a support act for artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Money, Chicago, and Richard Marx. Although most of his touring is in Indiana, he has appeared on the Arsenio Hall Show and Late Show With David Letterman. He also married and raised four children during this period, and successfully supported himself and his family with music since he was 17.
