Civil rights activist and independent archivist Marion Stokes videotaped 33 years of the 24-hour news cycle on 70,000 VHS tapes. In an effort to protect the truth, Stokes created an archive of U.S. history through media, starting with the Iranian Hostage Crisis and ending with Sandy Hook. In some cases, Stokes’s recordings are the only ones in existence as networks disposed of their own copies and the collection is now being digitized by the Internet Archive for future use.

Summary:
Gay’s poetically influenced prose is nothing short of joyful. Blending the serious and the playful, this essay collection incites joy with writings about a wide range of actions and places: dancing, orchards, teaching, skateboarding, basketball courts, technology’s absence, death, authentic gratitude, and more. For Gay, joy is also incited by courage and honesty; his essays have a through line of offering the deeply personal and speaking truth to power.

Each comedian is asked to do no more than five minutes of completely original material. While we do not care about foul language in your set, we do not allow racist, homophobic, transphobic or rape/female bashing jokes. If you have to ask if it’s racist, homophobic, transphobic or a rape joke, it probably is.
Comedians that wish to participate are asked to e-mail [email protected]. Newcomers and any participants who are not paid professionals will be required to bring audience members to see them. This is non-negotiable. So if you plan on signing up, be sure to invite as many friends as you can. Good luck!
