You can see the 2025 display now, 45 tree sweaters along Kirkwood and around the square, all crafted by concerned citizens like you.

Jan 31 @ 7:00 pm

Caleb Synan is one of the hottest young comics in the country. (Funny AND good looking!) His unique background as a preacher’s kid from a small southern town gives him the ability to relate to any and every crowd — even though he’s a big old millennial who lives in LA. Want proof? This rip-roaring ride is among the director’s most beloved films and was a primary influence on George Lucas’s Star Wars. Synopsis: In 1974, acclaimed photographer Peter Hujar describes the routines and rituals that define an artist’s life to his friend, the writer Linda Rosenkrantz, capturing a single day’s activities in touching and funny detail: from interactions with cultural icons of the day, including Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and Susan Sontag, to the texture and energy of downtown New York in its heyday. Melt the I.C.E. Resistant Hats Gathering @ Juniper Art Gallery, 615 West Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington
Feb 1 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Melt the ICE Hat is a modern knit pattern recreating the Norwegian resistance hat worn during World War II. In the 1940s, Norwegians secretly made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a silent protest of Nazi occupation. The Nazis banned the hats in February 1942, making it illegal to wear, and punishable by law to make or distribute them.
A large segment of Minnesota residents come from Norwegian heritage and therefore it was decided as purveyors of the traditional craft, to resurrect this symbolic act of resistance.
…and what a great way to spend a winter afternoon together!
The Melt the ICE Hat uses approximately 200 yards of red yarn (fingering, DK, or Worsted weight) and is designed for circular needles in US sizes 4–8 mm. Finished size: 22” circumference. Juniper Art Gallery has purchased the pattern for you to use.
The red tassel hat remains a powerful emblem of quiet resistance, rooted in Norway’s wartime defiance. Please bring your red yarn, scissors, tapestry needles and your enthusiasm!

Women on Top: Legacies of Women in Global Cinema: ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT @ IU Cinema, 1213 East Seventh St. (on the North side of the IU Auditorium), Bloomington
Feb 3 @ 7:00 pm

Anu and Prabha, roommates and coworkers, experience connection and heartache, hope and disappointment in Kapadia’s lyrically naturalistic and incandescent film. Prabha, her husband from an arranged marriage living in faraway Germany, is pursued by a courtly doctor while Anu carries on a romance with a Muslim man. Kapadia captures the bustle of the metropolis and the open-air tranquility of a seaside resort with equal radiance, articulated by the superb cast. All We Imagine as Light is a soulful study of the transformative power of friendship and sisterhood, in all its complexities and richness. About the Book: Two families vacationing at a secluded lake resort are at the center of a chilling crime and mysterious disappearance in this twisty, unputdownable thriller.

Courtney Gray’s tranquil family vacation is shattered when she hears a blood-curdling scream from the lakeside cottage next door. There she finds the lifeless bodies of her brother and sister-in-law. Her teenage niece Reese is nowhere to be found, while her nephew Wyatt lies asleep upstairs, unharmed.

As the police descend on the quiet resort town, disturbing secrets about Courtney’s family start to emerge. When she learns that the town has secrets of its own, it makes her wonder if Reese is another victim in a brutal crime or if she’s the killer.

As Courtney begins to unravel the terrible mystery, she realizes that everyone around her has something to hide. And the closer she gets to the truth, the harder it is to see…
