ACTION for Bloomington area crew: This Friday, January 30th, at noon, WALK OUT and join a rally at City Hall to demand that the City of Bloomington cut its contract with Flock — those mass surveillance cameras that feed info to ICE and who knows who!
Police departments are known to share Flock surveillance data to make it easier for ICE to abduct people off the streets. After the murder of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis this week on top of the thousands of other victims of ICE’s state violence make any tool that aids ICE unacceptable.
Abolish ICE, cut the contract! 🚫🧊

Melt the I.C.E. Resistant Hats Gathering @ Juniper Art Gallery, 615 West Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington
Feb 1 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Melt the ICE Hat is a modern knit pattern recreating the Norwegian resistance hat worn during World War II. In the 1940s, Norwegians secretly made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a silent protest of Nazi occupation. The Nazis banned the hats in February 1942, making it illegal to wear, and punishable by law to make or distribute them.
A large segment of Minnesota residents come from Norwegian heritage and therefore it was decided as purveyors of the traditional craft, to resurrect this symbolic act of resistance.
…and what a great way to spend a winter afternoon together!
The Melt the ICE Hat uses approximately 200 yards of red yarn (fingering, DK, or Worsted weight) and is designed for circular needles in US sizes 4–8 mm. Finished size: 22” circumference. Juniper Art Gallery has purchased the pattern for you to use.
The red tassel hat remains a powerful emblem of quiet resistance, rooted in Norway’s wartime defiance. Please bring your red yarn, scissors, tapestry needles and your enthusiasm!

Traveling University Presents: I Do Remember – Film Screening and Storytelling Discussion, with Ron Osgood @ Meeting Room A/B Combo, Ellettsville Branch of the Monroe County Public Library, 600 West Temperance Street, Ellettsville
Feb 1 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Road trip. Hitchhiking adventure. What could go wrong.

In 1972, filmmaker Ron Osgood set out on a road trip through Northern California that quickly turned into an unexpected hitchhiking adventure. For decades, he shared the story from memory, until he rediscovered an audio cassette he had recorded to preserve its details. That discovery inspired him to retrace and investigate what truly happened. I Do Remember weaves memory and evidence into a timeless question:

Where does the truth lie?

After the screening, Ron will lead a Q/A and discussion on how to research, collect evidence, and fact-check when developing a personal narrative.

I Do Remember will broadcast on PBS stations in 2026.

Women on Top: Legacies of Women in Global Cinema: ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT @ IU Cinema, 1213 East Seventh St. (on the North side of the IU Auditorium), Bloomington
Feb 3 @ 7:00 pm

Anu and Prabha, roommates and coworkers, experience connection and heartache, hope and disappointment in Kapadia’s lyrically naturalistic and incandescent film. Prabha, her husband from an arranged marriage living in faraway Germany, is pursued by a courtly doctor while Anu carries on a romance with a Muslim man. Kapadia captures the bustle of the metropolis and the open-air tranquility of a seaside resort with equal radiance, articulated by the superb cast. All We Imagine as Light is a soulful study of the transformative power of friendship and sisterhood, in all its complexities and richness. Winner of the Cannes Grand Prix, nominated for two Golden Globes and a BAFTA, and Sight & Sound’s Best Film of 2024. [118 min; drama; Malayalam and Hindi with English subtitles]
