A stirring selection of new work includes the sonnet sequence “Cruel April: Poems from the Pandemic,” which inspired a 2020 short film featuring Tyne Daly.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Daniel Mark Epstein is an award-winning poet, biographer, and dramatist whose works include Lincoln and Whitman, Sister Aimee, and the international best-seller The Ballad of Bob Dylan. Born in Washington, D.C. in 1948, he was educated at Kenyon College. In the 1970s his poetry first appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic Monthly, and The New Republic. His first volume of poems was published by Liveright in 1973. His plays appeared soon thereafter in regional theater and Off-Broadway, and in 1978 he received the Prix de Rome for his poetry and dramatic works.
In the 1980s he wrote his first biography, Sister Aimee: The Life of Aimee Semple McPherson, now in its fourth printing. His biography Nat King Cole was a 1999 New York Times Notable Book, reviewed on the cover of the NYT Book Review, and his biography of Edna St. Vincent Millay was a New York Public Library Honoree, “Books to Remember” for 2001. The Lincolns: Portrait of a Marriage, was named one of the Best Books of 2008 by both The Wall Street Journal and The Chicago Sun-Times. His holiday stories Star of Wonder and The Two Menorahs have become mainstays on National Public Radio.

Middle-aged businessman NJ is facing personal and professional upheaval: his company is floundering, and an old flame has reappeared. Around him, his wife spirals into spiritual despair, his young daughter wrestles with guilt over her grandmother’s stroke, and his curious, observant son begins to glimpse the complications of adult life. Benton // Myers // Garber Trio
First performance in this arrangement. Improvised music featuring three artists who are constantly switching up their gear and playing with how they manipulate sounds. Hazel Benton (Xylocept) on synthesizer/sampler/electronics etc, Ben Myers (Lather/SFTBH) on synthesizer/tapes/guitar etc, Gabe Garber (A Aardvark/B.K.Wala/so many others) on guitar/pedals.
Dylan Ryan (Chicago)
Dylan Ryan’s solo music combines the sounds of synthesizer and saxophone (played by Nate Lepine) to evoke drifting, serene feelings. In 2025 Dylan released his album “In The Same Room With A Cactus,” featuring compositions are reminiscent of komische, new age, and the softer facets of jazz.
Dylan has played with Bronze, SAND, Man Man, Ether Feather, The Red Krayola, Bitchen Bajas, Icy Demons, and has albums out on Cuneiform Records.

Sklermbot
Benjamin Handel has a lot of fun doing the project Sklermbot. His performances are full of joy and exploration, showing off his playful imagination. One of the things I enjoy most about watching Sklermbot is seeing children captivated by his performance, and who can’t help singing along and dancing.

Greg Freeman thrives on finding emotional catharsis and present-day resonance in the eccentric ugliness of the past. His songs all have a palpable sense of place thanks to his urgent delivery and evocative lyricism, which mines history for character-driven tales of violence, loss, and epiphany. On his sophomore LP Burnover, out August 22 via Canvasback Music/Transgressive Records, the Maryland-born, Burlington, Vermont-based artist uses the complicated backdrop of the Northeast to sing of grief, alienation, and the clarity that comes from opening up yourself to love. Explosive, unsettling, and undeniable, the 10 tracks here meld energetic indie rock with an ambling twang. It’s Freeman’s most adventurous and personal yet, cementing him as a singular songwriting talent.
