Tom Walsh is Robert J. Waller Sr. and Robert J. Waller Jr. Professor of Music (saxophone) and chair of the Jazz Studies Department at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. BMOC continues ZTA’s longstanding commitment to the fight against breast cancer. ZTA donates funds to local research with the IU Simon Cancer Center and Dr. Hari’s groundbreaking breast cancer research, directly fueling education, awareness, and advancements in treatment. Additionally, ZTA partners with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, American Cancer Society, and the NFL. One in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer. The goal is to help make pink just a color again!

In Plain Sight challenges “metronormativity” by exploring the lives of LGBTQ+ women in the rural Upper Midwest. This documentary uncovers a surprising reality: contrary to popular stereotypes of rural conservatism, many of these women find safety, support, and happiness in their communities. The film prompts viewers to reconsider preconceived notions about LGBTQ+ experiences outside of urban centers, offering a fresh and uplifting perspective on rural inclusivity. In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors while the citizens of Panem are required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives.

About the Conductors:
Jason H. Nam is associate professor of music in bands at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he conducts bands and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in instrumental conducting, administration of school bands, and wind literature.
Ryan Kelly is the inaugural associate dean for academic affairs and student success at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he is also associate professor of music in bands.
Caroline Davis’s Portals project is an immersive sound and haptic experience, drawing upon the idea of mourning and ancestral communications as textural entities. The music has been mindfully written to offer connections to Caroline’s ancestors who have transitioned and elements they would have liked to explore through the life-cycle portal. Through the compositions, the ensemble engages in the improvisatory tissue between dual and non-dual realms of existence. The core quartet features Julian Shore, Chris Tordini, and Timothy Angulo, and invited guests on her two Portals albums: Volume 1: Mourning (2021) and Volume 2: Returning (2024).

The African Children’s Choir is marking over four decades of transforming lives through the power of music, education and hope. As they embark on a tour of more than 100 cities, the Choir will continue to captivate audiences with their heartwarming performances with a show that blends traditional hymns and African cultural sounds.
Comprised of children ages 8 to 10, all from vulnerable backgrounds across Africa, the Choir serves as a powerful testament to the resilience and potential of Africa’s future leaders. Each child in the Choir has faced significant hardship, often with limited access to education. Yet, through the Choir, these children gain life-changing opportunities for education and personal growth, becoming beacons of hope for their communities.

Equal parts concert, lullaby and revelation, Pieces Of Heaven is not only an ending, but an unbridled celebration of the void: nothing means anything, and within that is complete freedom to do and feel everything.

Curiosity Lab is an after-school play program for kids ages 6-10 years. Children are invited to explore, experiment, and engage in hands-on sensory activities at their own pace. No instructions, no pressure—just curiosity-driven play. Held in WonderLab (or sometimes outdoors weather permitting), the space is set up for exploration with a variety of rotating materials and stations.

The College Arts + Humanities Institute is delighted to announce that Terry Tempest Williams will visit IU Bloomington and appear at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on November 6 as a Ruth N. Halls Distinguished Speaker.
Terry Tempest Williams has been called “a citizen writer,” a writer who speaks and speaks out eloquently on behalf of an ethical stance toward life. A naturalist and fierce advocate for freedom of speech, she has consistently shown us how environmental issues are social issues that ultimately become matters of justice. “So here is my question,” she asks, “what might a different kind of power look like, feel like, and can power be redistributed equitably even beyond our own species?”
Williams, like her writing, cannot be categorized. She has testified before Congress on women’s health issues, been a guest at the White House, has camped in the remote regions of Utah and Alaska wildernesses and worked as “a barefoot artist” in Rwanda.

Join a park naturalist for a guided hike of Trail 6 around Lake Strahl! Hear about the history of the lake, the surrounding Strahl Valley, and learn about the animals that make it their home, all while enjoying beautiful fall colors. The section of Trail 6 around Lake Strahl is considered easy to moderate. It has some short staircases, uneven surfaces, tree roots, and possible wet spots. The trail is less than a mile and will take about 45 minutes to complete.

Soul on Fire is based on the true story of John O’Leary, who at age nine suffered burns on 100% of his body. The movie chronicles his miraculous survival and his journey of healing, relying on family, faith, and community. It highlights his decision to live with purpose after the accident.

Photographer Emilia Martin is fascinated by the stones, but also by the people who study and adore them. With whimsy and extensive research, Martin presents a series of photographs that playfully investigate the old stories and the collective memory surrounding meteorites.
This captivating collection showcases imagery from Sara’s recently released oracle deck — a body of work inspired by dreams, myths, and archetypes that emerged through an intuitive creative process.
Each piece invites viewers to look inward, exploring the symbolic and spiritual connections that guide the artist’s vision. Merging storytelling and mysticism, McQueen’s work bridges the seen and unseen worlds with color, form, and imagination.

The creative practice of Sarah Wolfe spans food, design, sculpture, and drawing. Her work explores tensions between external and internal worlds, reproductive frailties and environmental anxieties by gathering materials, textures, and patterns from the natural world for an end result that feels somehow both private and universal. The pieces will be displayed at a gallery in the back of Gather as part of Bloomington Gallery Walk.

Charmaine will examine the prospects and challenges facing anti-imperialist working-class struggle in North America today. Drawing on ten years of scholarship and organizing in and around the logistics sector – through port blockages in the Palestinian solidarity movement and through organizing with an independent union of Amazon warehouse workers – this talk suggests that contemporary “internationalist” thinking remains too wedded to immaterial goals of “consciousness-raising” insufficiently attentive to the concrete challenges of rooting internationalism in grassroots working class movements.
