In the ’80s, while a student at Indiana University, CJ and her all-woman punk band climbed through the windows of a law school classroom, stood on desks, and sang a tune she wrote called “I Think I’m Gonna Die (and I Know I’m Gonna Flunk).” Today, CJ is still writing songs, but now they might chronicle a drunken dinner party, the tear-down of grandpa’s house, or the joy and sadness of our headfirst dive through life.

The Tillers – (Cincinnati Oh) The Tillers have been thumping their own distinctive sound of string band style folk music for a decade, riding it all over the country and across the sea. Four studio albums and one live record have won them praise as modern folk storytellers of the national soundscape.

Deep Country Dream – Another iteration of Matt Lundquist’s musical landscape this string trio will bring the front porch inside. Backed up by Michael Lindeau and Devin Brown these timeless songs of southern Indiana effortlessly fill the air like dust in a sunbeam.

Liv La Fluv – Liv LaFluv is a midwestern cutiepie music maker. She reaches into an imperfect world and spins beautiful yarns full of adventure, heartbreak, humor, and hopeful promise. Her voice draws you in with its effortless dynamic range. She has a fire in her belly and a twinkle in her eye! Watch out!

Luke Foster- I am a young poet and filmmaker from northern indiana. I started writing consistently in early 2024, and have compiled a book of poems I plan to release by the end of the summer. Ive been hosting a monthly poetry circle out of my home for about a year.

Cicada Cinema Screening: Secret Mall Apartment @ FAR Center for Contemporary Arts, 202 South Rogers St., Bloomington
Jul 13 @ 6:00 pm

Post-film video Q&A with artists Michael Townsend and Leah Smith!
Synopsis: In 2003, eight young Rhode Islanders created a secret apartment in a hidden space inside the Providence Place Mall and lived in it for four years, filming everything along the way. They snuck in furniture, tapped into the mall’s electricity, and even secretly constructed a brick wall with a locking door, smuggling in over 2 tons of cinderblock. Far more than just a wild prank, the secret apartment became a deeply meaningful place for all its inhabitants – a personal expression of defiance against local gentrification, a boundary-pushing work of public/private art, and finally, a 750 square foot space that sticks it to the man!

ACID 87 is BACK. The St. Louis freaks return, hopefully with their west coast cohort and the angle grinder. Both of their times in Bloomington they played with fire, Gibby Haynes’ toenails burning on the altar. This time they bring SLUGG along for the ride, heavy sound from Cleveland, OH driven by beats and vocals.
