All Static & Noise is an award-winning documentary on the Uyghur crisis by American director David Novack. The film, which exposes both the enormity of state-sponsored oppression and the individual struggles under horrific conditions, is the result of a five-year collaboration with Uyghur diaspora communities and 21 partner organizations across seven countries. An original score, animation, and the use of illustrations from the Uyghur Transitional Justice Database’s virtual reality camp project offer a chilling and emotional complement to the first-hand testimony from camp survivors and family members enduring this tragedy, including Jewher Ilham and Abduweli Ayup, among others. A Q&A with Gardner Bovingdon (IU Central Eurasian Studies), associate producer Jewher Ilham, and co-writer/co-producer Janice Englehart will follow the screening.

For those Civil War enthusiasts in our community, the Civil War Roundtable is the place to gather for conversation and camaraderie. Meetings open to any and all that would like to learn about the raids, battles, and soldiers of the 1860s.

Join in the fun with stories, songs, puppets, and more that encourage the development of early literacy skills. Activities will be followed by a craft, so dress to mess! Ages 3-6.

Tick season is upon us. Prepare yourself. Do you know someone with Alpha-gal, Lyme’s disease or another tick borne illness? Attend these open forum discussions, geared to educate and enlighten each other. Let’s talk about prevention and how to manage life if you are afflicted. Guest speakers may include medical and public health officials, naturalists, entomologists, veterinarians, and anyone with information about ticks.

Come to the Downtown Library and find the missing piece of your board game collection. Bring games that don’t get the play they deserve and swap them with others! All ages.

You’ll have 15 minutes to do your thing.

Join us and wrap up a package of books and write a letter to someone on the inside.

Calling all elementary-aged homeschoolers! It’s recess time! Come to the Downtown Library to play a variety of games and hang out with other homeschoolers. Ages 5-12.

A standup comedian and writer currently based in Minneapolis, Ben Katzner finds humor in his upbringing – born in Atlanta, adopted at a young age and raised in a small-town Minnesota – and explores how it influences his views on relationships, family and everyday life. Ben has opened for comedians such as Gary Gulman, Kyle Kinane, Kelsey Cook and Chad Daniels and has appeared in Buzzfeed, USA Today and on the Keith and the Girl Podcast. He has also participated in numerous comedy festivals including: the Limestone Comedy Festival, 10,000 Laughs Comedy Festival, Let’s Fest, the Harlem Comedy Festival and the Orlando Indie Comedy Festival. Katzner’s debut graphic novel, “Hello, My Name is Poop”, was published by Wonderbound books in 2021.

A holiday mini-market of local artists and artisans, as well as Beer & Wine and holiday snack offerings make this a perfect way to celebrate the season in community and some of Bloomington’s most talented performers! Grab a ticket and a cup of holiday cheer and buckle up for a wild holiday romp!

For more than 17 years, the Bloomington Christmas Sing-Along has been a tradition in our community. A unique, free, family-friendly event where you will hear Christmas arrangements like never before. Local musicians join forces with a children’s choir, Jacob’s School of Music students and local churches. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind experience featuring an eclectic variety of musical styles. Hailing from the faraway mystical land of rural Alabama, Faggedy Ann has been performing in drag and burlesque since 2013. Their referential style encompasses campy glamor while often pulling from film, fine arts, and queer history. Faggedy is a visual artist currently based in Indianapolis, IN.

About The Nightmare Before Christmas

Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Pumpkin King Jack Skellington longs to spread the joy of Christmas. But his merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere. Featuring the voice talents of Danny Elfman, Chris Sarandon, Catherine O’Hara, and Paul Reubens.

Doors open at 8:30 for registration and set up. Sitting begins at 9:00.
Hoosier Heartland Shambhala Meditation Group (HHSMG) is holding a half-day meditation retreat. Come and meditate with others in an inspirational setting. We alternate between sitting meditation and walking meditation/yoga with a tea break mid-morning. Bring a lunch and join us for conversation afterwards. At noon, we will have some dharma books to share for a $5 donation.
