We are honored to be the home of this beloved community event. For more than 30 years, we’ve promoted a message of sustainability – that too much food is wasted and should instead be channeled to people at risk of hunger. In many ways, the same is true of used books. We can’t afford to be a throwaway society – not with food, not with books and certainly not with people.

The Community Farmers’ Market of Owen County began in 2008 and was renamed to Owen County Farmers Market in 2012. The Owen County Farmers’ Market (OCFM) is committed to supporting locally grown and produced foods and brings the very best and freshest of the season to our community. The OCFM is a producer only market so you can shake the hand of the farmers that grow your food and meet the artisan that made it by hand. Our mission is to provide local producers and their neighbors a gathering place that fosters the connection between our food, our culture, our land, and our environment.
The Market is governed by a nine person Board Member Committee and the Market Season is overseen by a Market Manager. Board members terms are three years with election of new members in December to fill vacancies.
The Market offers entertainment during market days when available. Also when available, workshops on a variety of topics are hosted by volunteers during the market hours.
Vendor items include produce, meat, baked goods, eggs, jams, garden plants, flowers, dog treats, and artisan crafts. The Owen County Farmers Market has something for everyone, so we hope you will come on by for a visit!
We have a variety of vendors at the market including: fresh produce, farm fresh eggs and meats, vegetable and flower garden plants, baked goods, unique hand made crafts, and much more. Visit our vendors page for a listing of our local vendors.

The first one each month will begin with a tour to help new volunteers learn more about the Orchard and our methods. All volunteers are welcome, and no experience is necessary, however, as we transition to the “new normal,” we will still be limiting daily attendance to 25 volunteers, and requiring mask-wearing and social-distancing. We also ask that interested groups please schedule ahead. With the Orchard offering an opportunity for spacious outdoor volunteerism, we saw a lot of new faces this past year (at least from the eyes-up), and hope to see many more (including you) in the Orchard this year!

For the past five years, Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County and Building a Thriving Compassionate Community have engaged community members annually for the Monroe County Childhood Conditions Summit. They will revisit their original theme of “what surrounds us shapes us” and focus on moving from ideas to action. This theme is grounded in the understanding that children are shaped by the relationships they have, the neighborhoods they live in, the places they learn and play, and the community organizations that serve them. In order to continue building thriving compassionate communities, there must be a focus from individual youth and families to the conditions that frame our lives. This organization believes that every child is our child, therefore, the community must share a collective interest in children’s futures. Attend this event for practical tools and strategies that will build positive childhood conditions in Monroe County.

Monthly book club discussing a variety of fiction, nonfiction, biography and mystery books. Meetings are held in Meeting Room B and all are welcome! For 5 years the library’s book club A Novel Bunch has met once a month to discuss a variety of fiction, nonfiction, biography and mystery books! What I’ve described is certainly typical of any other book club, but typical we are not! Over the years the conversations we’ve had of our individual and unique experiences, resonated with sincerity and honesty! No matter what the book is about, it always led to an in-depth discussion of the characters, setting, plot and the effect it had on us. Whether you have a lot to say, or a little, you can be sure you’ll be heard! The end result is a group of women who are committed to the book club and committed to each other!
