The Beatles: A Hard Day’s Night (1964) – IU Cinema, Bloomington, IN
Jun 4 @ 6:45 pm – 8:30 pm

On Thursday, June 4, IU Cinema Founding Director Jon Vickers, Jacobs School of Music Professor Glenn Gass, and music theorist Gabriel Lubell will participate in an interactive conversation and Q&A about the film and The Beatles at 7 pm.

Be sure to download the free online meeting platform Zoom to your computer or phone to be able to access this special film introduction and sign up to join the June 4 Zoom event via this link.

Meet the Beatles! Just one month after they exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show appearance, John, Paul, George, and Ringo began working on a project that would bring their revolutionary talent to the big screen. A Hard Day’s Night, in which the bandmates play cheeky comic versions of themselves, captured the astonishing moment when they officially became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever. Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester, A Hard Day’s Night reconceived the movie musical and remains one of the most deliriously entertaining movies of all time.

Mystery Box Movie: The 80’s Edition, Brown County Playhouse, 70 South Van Buren Street, Nashville, Indiana
Jun 12 @ 7:00 pm

N THE SPIRIT OF TRYING NEW THINGS and keeping it fun and interesting, here is our newest, latest, greatest idea. Ready? So, you know how sometimes people buy a Mystery Box, not knowing what is inside on the promise that it is something good and worth at least as much as was paid for it? This is a spin on that idea.

We are going to do a series of themed “Mystery Box Movies” that will include a great movie with a great Mystery Box snack. The catch? You don’t know what the movie is until the screen lights up. It’s a surprise! It’s all about the intrigue. Who doesn’t like a surprise?

Trust us. We want to bring you the best in entertainment. We will have teaser hints along the way, and you might get a good idea or even guess the movie.

Our first MBM is The 80’s Edition. COME DRESSED IN YOUR FAVORITE 80’s STYLES.

The cost is $15, and includes a snack box by Nashville Fudge Kitchen. It’ll be gnarly and tubular. Duh.

Zoom to a Solarize meeting – Solar Indiana Renewable Energy Network (SIREN), Bloomington, IN
Jun 16 @ 7:00 pm

Did you know that you can get solar power for less than you’re paying now for your electric bill? Customers of Duke Energy can benefit from net metering until year 2032 and a 26 percent federal tax credit is available for 2020.  The Solarize program is open to residential, commercial and nonprofit property owners in Monroe and nearby counties.

Learn about the performance, cost and incentives for solar energy systems from Solar Indiana Renewable Energy Network volunteers. For the duration on the Covid-19 crisis, all presentations take place online via Zoom. Access codes will be emailed to you when you sign up. You will be able to ask questions of the presenters and the solar company.

You can register for upcoming sessions at www.tinyurl.com/HelpingYouGoSolar

SIREN acts as a technical advisor on a non-profit, volunteer basis. SIREN and its volunteers are not paid in any way. The City of Bloomington collaborates with SIREN on this program to further demonstrate its support for renewable energy. See https://bloomington.in.gov/sustainability/solarize for details. **the city does not subsidize purchases**

The Solar Indiana Renewable Energy Network (SIREN) formed in 2008 to promote an alternative energy model to reduce dependence on coal. Since then, we have continued to help more and more homes, businesses, churches, governmental buildings, and schools become solar powered. By presenting free, public Going Solar programs, and organizing Solarize group-purchase programs in partnership with city teams around the state, we help overcome barriers to adoption of solar in the Midwest by demonstrating its performance, affordability, and availability. If you want to see our culture move away from fossil fuels as a foundation, embracing the possibility of carbon-neutral energy, then join our efforts right here in southern Indiana.

Rainbow Elders Walking Group, Switchyard Park, 1601 S. Rogers Street, Bloomington, IN
Jun 25 @ 10:00 am

Steve will be at green benches by the trail beyond the main building. Please be on time or he may take off after a short wait. Walkers of all abilities are welcome. We can walk while maintaining social distance, talking or not, walking at your own speed– probably if the group has several folks we will have both faster and slower walkers.

The Three Amigos (also at 7pm), Brown County Playhouse, 70 South Van Buren Street, Nashville, Indiana
Jun 25 @ 4:00 pm

A classic favorite: Three cowboy movie stars from the silent era — Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase), Lucky Day (Steve Martin) and Ned Nederlander (Martin Short) — are fired when one of their movies bombs. In what seems to be a career-saving offer, young Mexican woman Carmen (Patrice Martinez) offers them a high-paying gig in her village. The three jump at the opportunity, expecting to do their typical act, but Carmen believes they are really heroes and asks them to rid her village of bad guy El Guapo (Alfonso Arau).

Will Holler, Peoples Park, 501 E Kirkwood Ave, Bloomington, IN
Jun 25 @ 4:30 pm – 6:00 pm

What do you get for your ticket?
  • A link to access our virtual event – an hour of inspirational stories, music, and fun! Don’t miss this entertaining and uplifting night!
  • A meal from a local restaurant. By purchasing a ticket to this year’s event, you are supporting local restaurants! For each ticket purchased, you will get your choice of meal to pick-up from one of our partners on the night of the event. This year, instead of restaurants donating or discounting food for our event, we are buying meals from them – so half of your ticket price goes to the restaurant whose meal you choose.
