Bring your kids to early childhood education programs at the WonderLab Museum of Science, Health and Technology, featuring programs designed to build curious and creative problem-solvers. Discovery Time, designed for ages 3-6, is every Wednesday from 10 am to 10:30 am.
Our two breakfasts are always the first Wednesday and the third Friday of the month at 10am. We meet at the Cloverleaf South Restaurant on Winslow at Henderson, behind the IU Credit Union in a shopping center that also has Avers Pizza and a hardware store. Anywhere from 12-25 of us sit at one long table; they just add more chairs and tables as our group grows.
Join a marine biologist to dive deeper into the science of WonderLab’s coral reef. These 30 minute talks feature a live feeding, tour of our coral reef aquarium, expert insight, and a question and answer session. Dive Deeper takes place on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 2-2:30 pm.

Bloomington Parks and Recreation and the Bloomington Fire Department present Fitness with a Firefighter—a weekly workout. All fitness levels are welcome. Workouts vary, and usually combine cardiovascular and strength training exercises. Modifications are available if needed. Workouts are approximately 30-45 minutes. Registration is not required. She has a special gift – her voice is delicate and tender, yet retains that raw emotion and hard worn truths that allows each sung word to be felt.
The more you hear of Kath Bloom, the more you notice it’s not just the arresting voice, but the power of the songwriting. “Beautiful” is the typical response—the kind of beauty that comes from truth, musical and the deeply lyrical. There are no good comparisons, but if you like the deep well of Emmylou Harris, the more poignant lyrics of Lou Reed, the joy of Joni Mitchell, you’re kinda in the right zone. In reality, she’s simply Kath Bloom: horse whisperer, vocalist, mum, songwriter and a beautiful person.

In a seaside village on the outskirts of an Italian city, where the only law seems to be survival of the fittest, Marcello is a slight, mild-mannered man who divides his days between working at his modest dog-grooming salon, caring for his daughter Alida, and being coerced into the petty criminal schemes of the local bully Simoncino—an ex-boxer who terrorizes the neighborhood. When Simoncino’s abuse finally brings Marcello to a breaking point, he decides to stand up for his own dignity through an act of vengeance, with unintended consequences. In Italian with English subtitles. Contains mature content, including strong language and graphic violence.

Each comedian is asked to do no more than five minutes of completely original material. While we do not care about foul language in your set, we do not allow racist, homophobic or rape/female bashing jokes. If you have to ask if it’s racist, homophobic, or a rape joke, it probably is.

This is non-negotiable. So if you plan on signing up, be sure to invite as many friends as you can. Good luck!

Our ongoing series featuring local unamplified live music, the Venue will host a performance by Grace Minnick.
Grace is a singer-songwriter from Fort Wayne, Indiana. She accompanies her bright, quirky lyrics on the piano, guitar, and ukulele. Her folk-pop sound, containing elements of blues and jazz, showcases her classical vocal training.

Please join us for a one night Pop Up exhibit featuring the work of Allan Yates. His series, Buddhism in Mongolia, is an on-going documentary project he began in 2013 to examine the role of Buddhism in contemporary Mongolian culture. The exhibit will be on view in the Brick Gallery at the FAR Center for Contemporary Arts, on Friday May 3rd, from 5 – 8 pm. To celebrate this artwork, monks from the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center will be attending and we will be serving Tibetan momo dumplings and milk tea.

Artist Karen Holtzclaw’s paintings keep evolving. A committed artist in the middle of an explosive creative flow, Karen has been putting out a new body of work every six months; each set of paintings following on the one before, each very different. The paintings of Crane Reign take place in Karen’s now familiar imaginary pond, where spring has sprung and a romantic spirit has taken hold. The koi fish from Karen’s last two shows are still there in her current paintings, but two cranes have taken center stage, where they seem to dance and cavort, like Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. It is a dream of love, a celebration of the spirit of love, not untroubled, but beautiful.

Founded by bassist Hannah Marks in 2017, Heartland Trio consists of Hannah Marks on double bass and vocals, Barclay Moffitt on tenor saxophone, and Rocky Martin on drums. The band, who recently won the inaugural Detroit Jazz Festival Collegiate Combo Competition, draws from Marks’ musical upbringing in folk and spirituals, while grounded in the group’s improvisational and groove background of jazz and rock. Along with their original compositions, Heartland Trio also uses jazz standards, rock songs, and traditional folk tunes as vehicles for expression. The trio’s sound reflects their desire to create with a gritty and spontaneous garage band mentality while exploring beyond the boundaries of the traditional roles of their instruments in a jazz setting. Their debut album, Year One, was released in November 2018.

The Brown County Story Slam! Presented by Brown County Radio Hour and the Nashville Arts & Entertainment Commission. We invite local storytellers to join us in The Corn Crib for a fun evening of true tales. We will be hosting Slams on the second thursday of April, May, and June.
The story topic for May 9 is The “Morel” of the Story.

The Jewish Theatre of Bloomington’s 2019 season opens with Cherry Docs written by Canadian playwright David Gow. Directed by Liam Castellan, this drama follows a neo-Nazi Skinhead, played by Christopher Crider-Plonka, who is charged with murder in Toronto. Legal Aid assigns him a Jewish lawyer, played by JTB veteran Jonathan Golembiecki, and they are forced to collaborate on a defense. The Skinhead is pushed beyond his prejudice, while the lawyer is forced to examine the limits of his own liberal tolerance, and the demons that might be underneath it. Cherry Docs is a white-hot examination of hate and how hard it is to uproot from society.

Fabuloso is everything and nothing. The shows they present are now and eternal.
A group of improvisers hailing from Bloomington, Indiana, they currently specialize in long-form sets: narrative stories they come up with as opposed to presenting games and short-form improv. The group continues to sharpen those skills, though. Fabuloso strives to present shows that provoke laughter and thought, with hopes you’ll have something to talk about on the drive home.
The Sklar Brothers, are a post-modern take on a stand up comedy duo. Neil Strauss of the New York Times once wrote “Their comedy accepts the reality of being twins but does not use it as a crutch. Instead, they work their physical and mental similarities and correspondences, their status as imperfect carbon copies of each other. In their comedy the straight man is often an echo.” They have released 4 critically acclaimed comedy albums, have had two Comedy Central Half Hour Presents specials, and currently have a one hour stand up special on Netflix, titled “What Are We Talking About” Their next one hour special will appear on Seeso in 2017.
Randy and Jason are also writers, directors and actors appearing in a wide variety of shows from Entourage to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to Maron, to Curb Your Enthusiasm. They are currently recurring characters on TruTV’s Those Who Can’t. However, they are perhaps most well known for their show Cheap Seats, a cult hit that appeared on ESPN Classic for 77 episodes.
