A lunch panel discussion about the state of child welfare in Monroe County. Attendees will hear from local representatives with varied experiences in the field. The group will discuss how the opioid crisis has changed the landscape of child welfare as well as address current challenges and successes related to child welfare in Monroe County.
Those who are supporting a loved one with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia may attend this group. Attendees will share ideas, support, and resources. Group discussions are confidential.

This semester a group of MPA students at IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) chose to take on FLM as their client for their final capstone project. Their job was to outline a plan to develop a Sediment Budget on Lake Monroe. Topics which they’ll propose include a Citizen’s Science Monitoring Program, Management Policy, a Water Fund Model, Grant Opportunites, and Mapping for land use, stress input, managed lands, and hot spots of bank erosion.
On Wednesday, April 25 at 6 pm in the Banquet Facility of the Upland Brewing company, Scott Russell Sanders, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of English at Indiana University, will present a talk entitled “In Defense of the Common Wealth”. From atmosphere to oceans, from public schools to democratic government, from the justice system to the scientific enterprise—our common wealth is under assault in America today by individuals and corporations intent on increasing their private wealth at the expense of our shared wealth. Scott Sanders will talk about some of the natural and cultural goods that make up our common wealth, why they matter for our well-being, and how they might be defended from piracy and privatization.

There is a local and global movement to abolish nuclear weapons. On Wednesday, April 25th at 7 p.m., Bloomington Peace Action Coalition will host a free workshop.
The Bloomington Organic Gardeners Association (BOGA) will host a free plant swap on Saturday, April 28, from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market. Bring plants and seeds to share and/or swap. Native plants, tree saplings, and seeds are encouraged but all non-invasive plants are welcome.
