Many of you will recognize Galina Herndon from her participation in the Fourth Street Fair, or from several showings of her paintings at The Venue over the last ten years, but for those have not met her, a little background. Galina was born and trained in Russia, married an American, and now lives in Roswell, Georgia, outside Atlanta. Through her art, she helps support her two daughters, and her entire family. +Her financial life as an artist is not easy, but she is resilient, optimistic, and tough. These qualities show through in her art.
Special circumstances afford special opportunities. A few weeks ago, in one of those freak cold weather events that snarl traffic in Atlanta, Galina had an auto accident. Although not physically injured, her car was totaled, and because of her language challenges and some unscrupulous insurance adjusters, she did not recover enough funds to replace her car. Her car is critical to creating her art and attending art fairs during the upcoming outdoor season.

Eagles over Monroe celebrates the close relationship that Monroe Lake has with these majestic birds. Monroe Lake was the site of Indiana’s Bald Eagle reintroduction program. In the 30 years since, Bald Eagles have survived and thrived, becoming our lake’s signature bird. In more recent years, they have been joined by small numbers of Golden Eagles, which have learned that Monroe Lake is the perfect place to spend their winter.
This unique special event dives into the lives of eagles and other raptors: tour the lake to see eagles in the wild, learn about recent research, meet live raptors, explore bird biology, and explore new ways to enhance your enjoyment of birds at Monroe Lake. Programs are accessible to both beginners and experienced birders, adults, and children. Bring your family, bring your friends, and join us for Eagles over Monroe!
