Networking Event: A Jelly Bean a Day Keeps the “Rut” Away

ENGAGEMENT, DIALOGUE, GAMES AND FUN:

Creative Indiana Board members Andrew Lambert and David Quick will show you that creativity helps us avoid falling into “the rut” altogether!

Participants benefit from the expertise of both business owners by walking through a two-part mini-series:

Participants follow Dave (armed with a famous “rut buster” jelly bean video) through scenarios that show how and why our challenges can be overcome through different “outcome actions”.

Andrew will get you in on the action by literally spinning the wheel of chance when he introduces “Bean Boozled.” This fast paced game allows participants to see the value in quick decisions, figuring out what to do when a “bad taste” is left in their mouth.

How to get that chance to spin again in the game of life is what it is all about!

Jul 26 @ 6:00 pm

Jeff White, Professor of Environmental Science at SPEA, will present at talk entitled “An Update on the Climate Change Dilemma from the Perspective of an Environmental Scientist”. Climate change has been and will likely continue to be a defining issue of our time.  The topic has become so politicized that it is difficult to decipher the status of the science from the amplified political noise that currently engulfs it. White will provide a brief update of the science. He will also touch on several aspects of the changing political landscape that affects the advancement of the science, which is essential to development of smart policy.

Immediately following White’s presentation members of Citizens’ Climate Lobby will hold a letter writing party for Green Drinks participants who would like to help build the political will for a stable climate.

Green Drinks Bloomington is a lively, informal social networking event for people from all walks of life who are interested in making a greener world.  Folks gather every month to share libations and ideas, discuss, debate, explore and make new friends and business connections.

Buskirk-Chumley Presents Summer Movie Series-The Graduate, The Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington, IN
Jul 28 @ 7:30 pm

The Graduate; 1967; Run time: 1 hour, 46 minutes; Rating: PG; Screening format: DCP of digitally remastered film

Recent college graduate, Benjamin Braddock, is disillusioned with the choices his life has to offer. His lack of direction leads him into an unlikely affair with a neglected wife, Mrs. Robinson, and this mistake comes back to haunt him when Ben finds himself falling in love with Mrs. Robinson’s daughter, Elaine. Tormented by the past and uncertain about the future, Benjamin and Elaine eventually wave goodbye to conventional expectations and head off together into a new uncertain era.

This film was Dustin Hoffman’s breakthrough role, launching a career that would include an amazing array of films, including Midnight Cowboy, Tootsie, and Rain Man. This year marks the 50th anniversary of The Graduate, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards and received the Oscar for Best Director. It was also nominated for seven Golden Globes and received five awards. In 1996, The Graduate was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Initially, the film was placed at number 7 on AFI’s “100 Years…100 Movies” list in 1998.

Stop Making Sense, The Void, 1607 S. Rogers St., Bloomington, IN
Jul 28 @ 8:00 pm

The filming of Stop Making Sense spanned three live shows at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. Demme has stated that one night of shooting was dedicated almost entirely to wide shots from a distance, to minimize the intrusion of cameras on stage. Demme had considered additional shooting on a soundstage made to recreate the Pantages Theater, but the band declined to do this, as they thought the lack of audience response would have hindered the energy of their performance.

The Buskirk-Chumley Presents Summer Movie Series-Love Story, 114 E. Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington, IN
Aug 4 @ 7:30 pm

Love Story; 1970; Run time: 1 hour, 39 minutes; Rating: PG; Screening format: DCP

Oliver Barrett IV is American royalty, from east coast wealth. When he meets working-class Jenny Cavalleri, he’s challenged by her quick-wit and creativity. Despite differences in their upbringing and life approach, they build a life together believing that love can save the day. Fate may have other plans.

The American Film Institute calls Love Story one of the most romantic films of all time. A novel by the same title was written, based on the screenplay, to promote the film and both the film and the novel were popular successes. Love Story was nominated for seven Academy Awards, winning one for Best Music, Original Score.
