July 30 marks the 50th anniversary of Medicare, which President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law on that date in 1965. A celebration of Medicare’s birthday, with a pie fest, will take place in Bloomington beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, in room 1C of the Monroe County Public Library.
Medicare is as American as apple PIE—we need to Protect, Improve and Expand the health care program. Sponsored by Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan (HCHP), the celebration will begin with a talk and question-and-answer session with Rob Stone, M.D., on, “Does the U.S. Have the Greatest Healthcare in the World? (If Not, Would Americans Be Better Off with Medicare for All, Not Just for People 65 & Over?)” For the PIE fest, which will follow the talk, attendees are urged to bring a pie to share.
