Today your phone, your credit cards and your debit card can transfer information — and money! — by using a radio signal. All you have to do is tap your card or your phone, no need to insert a card or swipe it. This is called Near Field Communication. The signal is very weak — it only goes about 4 centimeters — but scammers have found ways to tap into it and grab your personal info. They can even steal money from your bank account or charge your credit cards! Here’s a quick look at the situation, and some basic ways to protect yourself.
