Better Beware – Fakers and Liars

Two warnings: first, whenever there’s a disaster — like the incredible wildfires in California — scammers try to fool you into giving to fake charities. Here’s how to make sure your help gets to the real victims: check out any charity at https://www.charitynavigator.org/ or https://give.org/. Second, fake news and false information is now an avalanche that’s getting bigger and bigger. Artificial Intelligence lets anyone create fake video and audio that seems absolutely real.  This problem is only going to get worse and worse.

You can’t stop the liars, but you don’t have to be one of them: check out any news story, social media post, or gossip you get at https://www.snopes.com/ or https://www.politifact.com/ or https://leadstories.com/ or https://www.factcheck.org/ — and most major news websites have a fact checking service you can click to.
