The American Red Cross is one of the most important disaster relief organizations in our social safety net, both here in the U.S. and around the world. Bloomington has an active Red Cross chapter but the Indiana University student chapter was dormant until Jay Patel brought it back to life. Jay feels like so many people have helped him in his life, and he sees his volunteer work with the Red Cross as a way to pay it forward. He helps other students get certified in CPR, going to local fraternities and sororities to show people what to do if someone stops breathing.
