Donnelly to Meet Trump’s SCOTUS Nominee

Play

Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly will meet with President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick, tomorrow.

In a statement issued this afternoon, the first-term incumbent Democrat announced he will meet with SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh, at noon.

Kavanaugh is the second Supreme Court Justice nominated by President Trump; Neil Gorsuch was approved earlier this year. Donnelly was one of three Democratic Senators to vote to confirm Gorsuch, earlier this year. All three Senators who voted to confirm Gorsuch were Democrats up for re-election in states that voted for Trump, during the 2016 presidential election.

Donnelly is facing pressure from groups on both sides of the aisle, Democrats are asking him to vote against Kavanaugh’s confirmation, and Republican groups, including the National Rifle Association, have taken out ads, encouraging constituents to call the Senator’s office to tell him to confirm Kavanaugh.

Donnelly faces Republican Senate candidate Mike Braun during this year’s mid-term election. If confirmed, Kavanaugh would replace retiring Justice John Roberts, giving Republicans a majority of Supreme Court seats.
