Two years ago, 25 overdoses were reported in downtown Bloomington caused not by heroin nor prescription pills. The cause of the overdoses was synthetic marijuana called Spice, or K2. At the time, the drug was considered legal on the state level. House Bill 1186 allows us to control the growing threat of those using synthetic drugs.
At the Indiana statehouse, the state Senate unanimously approved House Bill 1186 on Tuesday, tightening restrictions on synthetic drugs. Synthetic drugs can be more dangerous and far more unpredictable than the controlled drugs they intend to mimic, which include marijuana, cocaine or morphine. Common synthetic drugs include fentanyl, synthetic marijuana, synthetic LSD and synthetic stimulants.
