Monroe County Commissioners

At the Monroe County Commissioners meeting on May 17th, Population Health & Outreach Manager Kathey Hewett shared some information on Covid-19 in response to questions from the public concerning the end of the public health emergency.

During public comment a Monroe County Resident spoke to the commissioners about the Gordon Pike Construction Project.

Next, the commissioners heard from Financial Director Brianne Gregory who asked the commissioners to approve a contract with Baker Tilly for consulting services to help manage American Rescue Plan Act funding.

County Attorney Jeff Cockerill explained how Baker Tilly was selected, and that the county council will need to approve the appropriation of funds as well.

The commissioners unanimously approved the contract with Baker Tilly, contingent upon the county council also approving the contract.

The Monroe County Commissioners met again on May 24th. Stay tuned to the WFHB Local News next week for further coverage.

Monroe County Public Library Board of Trustees

Upon entering the library, you can see the words, “read, learn, connect and create” (Young).

At the Monroe County Public Library Board of Trustees meeting on May 17th, Director Grier Carson gave his monthly report on the library.

Board President Chris Harrison asked about the process of weeding out books from the library, and if extra copies of books that are no longer needed are going to be distributed to the Southwest Branch. Carson responded.

Board Member Nichelle Whitley-Wash asked about a patron’s request for mental health services to be added to the website, and asked how the library was going to respond to that. Carson answered.

Next, Carson gave updates on the Southwest Branch construction, book stocking, and staff hiring.

Next, Carson asked the board to approve seven change orders. The board unanimously approved the change orders, leaving the Southwest Branch Construction project with $38,000 (thirty eight thousand dollars) left in the budget for any future change orders.

The next Monroe County Public Library Board of Trustees meeting will be held on June 21st.
