Future Georgia congressman John Lewis was the 25-year-old chairperson of the Student Non-violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) on March 5, 1965, when he participated in a voting rights march in and around Selma, Alabama. That day has become known as Bloody Sunday as some 600 marchers were attacked by state troopers and posse members. Lewis suffered a fractured skull in the mayhem. The graphic novel trilogy, March, recounts that and many other stories from Lewis’s long career in the civil rights struggle and public service. Lewis tabbed Bloomington cartoonist Nate Powell to illustrate the books. Powell is the bestselling creator of a number of graphic novels.

Host Michael Glab goes one-on-one with Bloomington’s most fascinating people every Thursday at 5:30pm. Tune in for a bonus feature, Big Talk Extra, every Monday on the Daily Local News at 5:00pm for added chat from the previous week’s show.
