March 27, 2020: Coronavirus Dispatches From the Prisons

Play

This week, we continue to air urgent messages from people on the impact of the coronavirus on prisoners around the world and closer to home. We start off with a call from a prisoner at Waupun Correctional, in Wisconsin, where an outbreak of COVID-19 has been reported. We share a statement from someone in Brazil about the recent prison breaks, and the impact of the pandemic on prisons in their area. Via our coronavirus hotline, we also hear from a supporter of Marius Mason as well as a prisoner at Rikers Island, where they have begun releasing prisoners due to the pandemic.

If you or someone you know has updates on the coronavirus pandemic’s impact on prisoners, you can call our hotline and record a message to be played on the air. Please call (765) 343-6236. We will have more messages on our website from Wisconsin, where several people have called in to report on the crisis in prisons there. We had more calls than we could air this week, so if you want to hear these calls in advance of next week’s episode, we will have them on our website soon. Thanks to everyone who has called in, please keep calling in, and stay safe as best you can.
