A research crew from Ball State University is in Bloomington this summer to study the booming urban deer population, which has been the subject of controversy in recent years. Through the end of July, the researchers plan to gather information about the survival of fawns in the city. Urban deer became the subject of fierce debate in Bloomington late last year after a city task force recommended killing deer to control the population. For today’s WFHB feature exclusive, Assistant News Director Joe Crawford brings us this story about the researchers studying the survival of Bloomington’s deer, as well as the continuing debate about whether the city should intervene to reduce the herd.
