Deep Dive: Opioid Settlement Fund Investigation (Part 3)

Play

This is DEEP DIVE: WFHB AND LIMESTONE POST INVESTIGATE where we look into issues regarding Health, Housing, and the Environment that directly impact residents of Monroe County. We are looking into the Opioid Settlement Fund, and how the money will be distributed.

We interviewed Dr. Richard Gunderman who is a Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy and Medical Humanities at Indiana University. Gunderman has a background in public health and has taught a couple of courses on the opioid epidemic at IU. Gunderman says he wanted to teach these courses because he became interested in the wide ranging impacts of the opioid epidemic on the American public.

We also talked to Executive Director of the Indiana Recovery Alliance Nick Voyles. In an interview last year last year Voyles said that the key to keeping people who use drugs meaningfully connected in their communities is to treat every person regardless of their circumstances or condition, with dignity and respect.

We will continue to look into the Opioid Crisis., next week on Deep Dive: WFHB and Limestone Post Investigate.  Stay tuned.
