Tensions in Standing Rock, North Dakota have been on the rise during the past couple weeks, with several Bloomington residents there to participate and observe, including several WFHB reporters; Bloomington city officials announced in a press conference last week that the city is preparing to pay over $200,000 in back pay to city firefighters following a change in how the city calculates overtime pay; The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will hold a public hearing on the City of Bloomington’s proposed water rate increase; Indiana University-Bloomington is the first university in the state to take part in a two-part pilot program offering free Naloxone kits to students; The Indiana Attorney General’s Office has announced the settlement of a lawsuit against software company Adobe Systems, Inc.

FEATURE
In the wake of the November 8th election, Bloomington residents have organized a plethora of community meetings, marches, organizing events and rallies. Many are alarmed about the potential effects of a Donald Trump presidency. Earlier this month, the hosts of WFHB’s Bring it On spoke with three student activists who represented groups associated with Indiana University. Bring It On host, Amrita Myers, interviewed two representatives from IU student groups.

Stanley Njuguna and Jacob Mills are from the group Students for a Democratic Society, and Nick Greven is from Students Against State Violence. In this next clip, Myers asks the first question. The first respondent is Njuguna

ACTIVATE
Don Westerhaus previously volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Iowa, and after retiring to Bloomington became active in Habitate for Humanity of Monroe County. In this week’s Activate! – listen as Don describes how impactful Habitat’s work is with family’s in need, and describes his own growth and satisfaction gained from the many roles he has fulfilled as a Habitat volunteer.
