Bloomington and Indianapolis both saw protest activity over the weekend in reaction to Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election; Bloomington’s Public Works Department has announced that the downtown recycling center will be closed by the end of this month; Last week the Bloomington City Council gave conditional approval to a rezoning request that clears the way for a high-density student housing complex to be built on east 17th Street; An organization dedicated to preserving the bonds between homeless people and their pets is holding a one-time event at Shalom Community center this weekend.

FEATURE
Area residents gathered at the Monroe County Public Library last Wednesday for a forum on the resettlement of refugees to Bloomington. Reporter, Sarah Vaughan, attended the meeting and, as expected, found opposing information and perspectives were plentiful. The organization, Exodus Refugee Immigration, is opening an office in Bloomington in the spring of next year and will help resettle families in the Bloomington area. The organization is seeking volunteers. More information is available at exodusrefugee.org
